The new youth protection regulations will enter into force in stages, with a two-year implementation period
The Federal Act on the Protection of Minors in the Areas of Film and Video Games (JSFVG) has been partially in force since 1 January 2025, providing for staggered implementation. It is important to note that the film and video game industries now have two years to develop their own youth protection regulations.
These must comply with the minimum standards set by the federal government. Once reviewed and approved, they will become binding for all industry players. This process relies on co-regulation, which promotes close cooperation between the public sector and companies to ensure the uniform protection of minors.
The two-year period is therefore a crucial phase in which clear and effective protection measures must be developed that meet legal requirements and apply to all industry participants.
