New study on gambling behaviour in Switzerland

The Federal Gaming Board (ESBK) and the Intercantonal Gaming Supervisory Authority (Gespa) have initiated a new study into gambling behaviour in Switzerland. The aim of the study is to conduct a new scientific analysis of the use of gambling services available in Switzerland and their impact on the population. The results are expected to be published in autumn 2027.

Since 2007 and 2017 respectively, the two supervisory authorities have conducted regular studies to gain in-depth insights into gambling behaviour among the Swiss population. For the new study, the authorities have commissioned the Federal Statistical Office, which will collect relevant data in 2026. The data will be evaluated by the Swiss Institute for Addiction and Health Research (ISGF).

The study will provide valuable information on the different types of gambling, the characteristics of gambling participation and the prevalence of problematic and pathological gambling behaviour. These findings will enable the supervisory authorities to improve the effectiveness and targeting of their work in the area of regulation and supervision.
