For the time being, no new casino licence application process for St. Moritz and Schaffhausen

Following the closure of the St. Moritz Casino in April 2025, the Federal Gaming Board (ESBK) revoked the operating company's casino licence in August 2025.

At its meeting on 19 November, the Federal Council decided to delay the reissuing of the licence for the 'South Grisons' zone.

Instead, the ESBK has been tasked with developing recommendations for further action in this area. These recommendations will be included in a report on the overall evaluation of the Swiss casino landscape, which is due to be completed by September 2028.

A similar approach was used for the 'Schaffhausen' zone after a licence could not be awarded in 2023. The final decision for the 'South Grisons' zone is not expected before the end of 2028.
